I have a feeling that these words had no offensive meaning originally. As time progressed, people began to use these words as taboo terms and they ended up becoming offensive. For example, had I made up a word such as rebugyrosi and people frequently used it in a negative connotation, it would thus become a swear word.

Good point and question. The word 'a**' used to refer innocently to a donkey, now you can get in serious trouble for calling anyone that.
