Get Active Virus Shield by AOL, it's free and has the best detection system available because it's powered by Kaspersky.

I'm not sure about the search bar that you have the option to install, I heard somewhere that you probably shouldn't install it when prompted because it's not from a trusted vendor.

There are plenty on line. I use Windows defender

another good programme for clearing clutter is EasyCleaner.

The latter is also much quicker to use.

Both are free and Defender works for me

Try Spybot search and destroy. the one with the fingerprint logo. it is a good FREE anti-virus pgm. don't be fooled by others. Many claim they found something on your computer that isn't there to get you to buy theirs

the best I've ever used is antivir , look on majorgeeks.com for this and other free antivirus software. I find AntiVir better than all other virus programs free or otherwise.

Google "AVG Free" and cllick on the grisoft free page. You can download both a virus blocker and a spyware blocker.

The best free one that I have ever downloaded is 'Window's Defender' by Microsoft. Forget the rest of them....get this

Switch off System Restore as back up files may be hiding in there, and it will just restore itself. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore.
Run your anti virus and anti spyware in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode repeatedly press the F8 key after the bios screen loads but before Windows loads. You'll know if you made it because the screen will be at 800 x 600 and your pc will be slow.

Its easier to prevent malware getting on to your sytem in the first place rather than trying to remove it. All the following programs are free for home use;

You need to install one firewall.
The Windows firewall doesn't stop malware on your pc from dialling out.
