David Morrell is fantastic! His books are intriguing and hard to put down.
He is the author who penned First Blood, later made into a movie starring Sylvester Stallone.
His books are not all about angry Veterans though.
Check out his website. That's the easiest way to see if he is within your taste as an author.

Another author I would suggest is Arturo Perez-Reverte. "The Flanders Panel" and "The Club Dumas" have the same sort of mystery puzzle style as "The Da Vinci Code." If you like that aspect of it, you might also like Katherine Neville's works such as "The Eight" or Umberto Eco's works such as "The Name of the Rose." Reviewers have taken to saying that Neville, Eco, and Brown make a trio of good reading. If you like one of those authors, you will probably like the other two. Some other books you might like are "The Dante Club" and "The Poe Shadow" by Matthew Pearl and "The Rule of Four" by Ian Caldwell and Dustin Thomason. All of these books basically follow the same theme of a race to solve a puzzle by following scattered clues and they are all very well written.

Anything by Chris Kuzneski, Raymond Khoury, Matthew Reilly, James Rollins, Jack DuBrul, Clive Cussler. Dan Brown's books are basically follow the clues thrillers. If you like those types of books you will like these authors. Also, the two guys who co-wrote Relic (Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child) have an entire series that follows that book and are quite facinating. And they also wrote books separately that are good reads too.

How about the book Holy Blood, Holy Grail. Isn't that what the Da Vinci Code was based off of?

You might enjoy the Rule of Four by Ian Caldwell and Dustin Thomason

It is another book where modern researchers (in this case a couple of college students) are looking into ancient mysteries, although it also ends up being a book about friendship and being young. You might want to check it out.

Definitely go with Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. They've co-written some great thriller/spy/mystery novels. I especially love the ones that feature Pendergast. Start with "Relic" and move through them. Also try Lewis Purdue. I believe he wrote some similar novels as well: the Davinci Legacy and Daughter of God are good too.

You want another writer who re-uses the same theme again and again but is a master at building suspense?

Well, I think that I can give you some great authors who are suspense masters.
