Located in Anaheim, California, USA, it opened to the public on the 18th of July, 1955 - with a press preview the day before. The park is owned and operated by The Walt Disney Company. The park consists of various areas with separate themes; an early 20th century Midwest town, jungle adventures, the western frontier, fantasy, and the future. These areas are named, respectively, Main Street USA, Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. An elevated berm supports a three-foot (narrow) gage railroad which circumnavigates the park. Disneyland features rides and attractions designed to appeal to all ages.

The park has been visited by more than 515 million guests since it opened to the public, including presidents, royalty, and other heads of state. Since 1998 Disneyland has been officially renamed Disneyland Park in order to distinguish it from the greater Disneyland Resort complex of which it is a part. In February 2001 Disney opened an adjoining yet separate amusement park called Disney's California Adventure.

The first Disneyland was first opened on July 18, 1955 in Anaheim California. Back then it was a grove of Oranges which Walt purchased to build Disneyland to follow up on his family television show. At the time he lived in Burbank next to the studios where the television show was aired from. He decided that it was far enough away to purchase the space but close enough where people can visit the place where adults can be children and have as much fun as their own children. Disneyland was to be a land where everyone belonged.

The first Disneyland was opened in Anaheim on July 17th,1955. Although July 17th was only supposed to be a media and special guest preview day, the actual first public day was July 18th.

However, over the years July 17th has become the official "Birthday" of Disneyland mainly because this is the day that Walt Disney gave his famous Welcome speech. On July 17th 2005 they celebrated the 50th Aniversary.

The idea started around 1940 but because of the war wasn't put into serious action until 1953. In July 1954 Disney bought 160 acres of land in Anaheim, CA, some 20 minutes from Los Angeles right off the freeway and a year later the park opened.
