It teaches that God hates divorce BUT in certain cases he does allow it as in adultery, fornication and adultery and if the unbelieving spouse wants out you let them depart A brother or sister is not umder bondage in such cases. I also feel that God does not want us with someone who is sexually abusing children or physically harming a spouse or children excessively as this is just wrong. BUT i feel that these are the only reasons for divorce and that we are not to divorce for just any reason and just because we are unhappy and looking for a way out of the marriage, It also states somewhere in Matthew that if you look at another person to lust after them that you commit adultery in your heart. The Bible says Thou shalt not commit adultery! It is one of the ten commandments that are not to be broken. If you have more questions go ask your local pastor of your church about it and pray about it and see what God shows and tells you in the Word about it as well. I also suggest going to http://www.marriagetoday.org and emailing them with this question and see what they have to say. Hope this helps some and answers some of your question.

I can't quote anything from the Bible, but as a divorced Christian, I feel your pain. Yes, God did not create marriage so we could divorce. Yes, He hates divorce. Yes the Bible says if your WIFE cheats, the husband can leave her. But... I also believe that God loves us. And by loving us, he doesn't want us to be hurting. So if you are in an emotionally, physically or verbally abusive relationship GET OUT!!!!!! He knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows when we have reached our limit. As long as your relationship Him is strong, don't worry about what the Bible says. Trust your heart. Listen when He tells you things. Remember, sometimes He shouts, but mostly He whispers.....

Not to familiuar with the bible but i know that i was told from church pastors that if God did not give His blessings from the first place then it is like the wedding wasnt real aniways or bible based aniways so divorce is an option. Otherwise adultry is a reason divorce was made.

Mathew 5:31-32 reads:
It has been said "Anyone who divorces his wife must giver her a certificate of divorce" But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced women commits adultery.
In Mathew 5:28 it says:
"Anyone who looks at a women lustfully has already committed adultery in his heart".

My interpretation is only adultery is cause. When I got divorced I discussed this with my church and I was told that if he was seeing another women (not sleeping together) it was still adultery.

God has made a specific reason for divorcement, and that reason is for infidelity. I am a firm believer that if a husband is beating the crap out of his wife, God didn't mean for her to stay there until he beats her to death!
