maybe, maybe not--depends on how much other catnip is growing in the neighborhood and how many cats are wandering around. If you must plant catnip, do it in a container, not the ground, or put a deep underground barrier around the catnip patch. That stuff spreads like wildfire.

It won't attract cats that aren't normally in your yard. Catnip does not have a scent that travels more than a few feet. However, if a cat does comes into your garden, count on it finding the catnip and returning on a daily basis, most likely in the evening. Cats are creatures of habit.
I have multiple cats that use the catnip in my garden and have never had a problem with them destroying the plant. The more it's used, the faster it seems to grow.

My son feeds 2 instruments of feral cats that congregate outdoors his former living house and new living house. I have catnip growing in my carden for years and the cats could'nt care less about it. They don;t even lie near it.
The best way to attract cats is to be always friendly when you see one and I little treat will always bring them back.
