I totally enjoy Poe! My favorite stories are "The Pit and the Pendulum," "The System of Dr. Tarr and Professor Fether," "The Masque of the Red Death," and "Hop-Frog." It might interest you to know that the Alan Parsons Project's first album was "Tales of Mystery and Imagination--Edgar Allan Poe," in which they did a creditable job of musically interpreting some of Poe's works. The best track on the album is an instrumental called "The Fall of the House of Usher"...it is creepy just how well they captured the mood of the original story!

I read Annabel lee in 1995 when I was still a high school student. I still remember the part of it which came in the exam. It was the last one
"For the moon never beams, without brining me dreams..."
Edgar Allan Poe is one of my favourites.

Edgar is way over do for a revival - - - his writing remains unique speaking well into the current century - - - if U R GOTH then 'read' Edgar to a crowd at a poetry slam.... One odd note, actor Vincent Price did a number of movies based on Poe's prose, films of varying quality, but if you can find a simple filmed stage performance of Vincent reading several of Poe's poems & emoting, it is actrually more effective than the best of his Poe's films with all of their staging & effects - - - Poe's words and Price's reading trump all...
Peace
PS Poe's 'Black Cat' illustrates why one should never mess with Cats....

Hopefully anyone who's taken any kind of English or Literature class in the United States has heard of Poe. If not, it is indeed a sadder time for education than I thought.

i can honestly say that although i did really well in English, that i have not read many of his works..
funny thing is just today, my sister and i were talking about high school English class, and how we wish we would have actually read the books that were assigned to us..
like flowers for Algernon, and the pearl, and great expectations, tom saywer, the good earth.. all those books that i 'should' have read, i want to read now..
and it's my mission to do so.. maybe this summer. so everyone is going to miss me on Yahoo answers....( I hope they miss me...) LOL
