Hey all. I am 27 weeks pregnant and I was put on bedrest last wed. cuz blood pressure was 154/60. Well I've been on bedrest and my blood pressure seems to go high in the 150's an hour or so after I fall asleep and I get hot flashes and dizzy spells and see spots, and I just can't sleep. It seems to stay in the 130's during the day so I haven't called about it because I go in tomorrow, but I was wondering if maybe I shouldn't be on bedrest, cuz it seems to be worse at night. Today I had quite the headache, but went away with tylenol. Has anyone had this when they were pregnant? Maybe it's g. Diabetes?...I get the preeclampsia results tomorrow.

If you get severe headaches or see flashing lights call your dr day or night or call labor and delivery. IMMEDIATELY.

Your Bp is high, but not super high, did you have protein in your urine? That is an indicator as well.

If your Dr put on bed rest please listen....they don't do that lightly.....also, communicate to your dr or nurse because you have to be your own advocate if you don't feel right....

I have had severe pre-eclampsia 4 times...the last time they took my son at 28 weeks 3 days because of my visual disturbances and my bp was 187/137.....the highest bp I ever had was 210/160......

E-mail me if you have any questions, but my best advice would be tell you dr about all of your symptoms and it is okay to call after hours or on weekends, they were concerned enough to test you for pre-eclampsia, so they would rather be safe than sorry, if nothing else, go to the hospital where you are to deliver and ask them to do a bp check. They'll keep you there for an hour or so and get some readings....

I hope this helps.

Until you see your doctor, make sure you lay down on your left side and rest rest rest. When you get high blood pressure and a head aches that is not good. Not to sound like an alarmist, but when I was pregnant with my first child, I was 33 weeks along and one day I developed a horrible head ache. The worst one I'd ever had. I ended up in the hospital. The baby was stillborn because oxygen stopped going to my uterus because my blood pressure was so high (200/110) I almost died. I had severe preeclampsia. The worst part was that I begged my doctors for help before that and they acted like I was being annoying. My fingers were like sausages and I couldnt even wear shoes. I had pitted edema and gained 100 pounds. I had head aches and leg cramps and felt like I was going insane. They said it was all normal. Im not trying to freak you out, but you dont realize it when you are going through it..just how important it is. I wish I knew then what I know now. I thought doctors were like gods or authority figures..now I realize that I am paying them to do what I ask.
Regardless of the results of your tests, lay on your left side as much as possible, drink PLENTY of water and relax as much as possible. Good Luck!!

If your blood pressure is that high, its definitely preeclampsia. The thing that worries me is the "seeing spots". That is a sign that it is geting worse. You need to be on bedrest and stay lying on your left side. The only treatment for preeclampsia is delivering the baby. They will probably put you on Magnesium sulfate and a blood pressure medication. Take this very seriously. This illness can lead to seizures and convulsions.

Hi There

I had high blood pressure when I was pregnant and the doctor put me on Iron tablets. Ask your GP about it when you go for your next checkup. As for the headache, I also suffered but was told that it's natural when your pregnant, something to do with your hormones.

Hope this helps!

It could be gestational hypertension..and it will cause you to have headaches. If your pressure is better through the day, I would continue to be active as usual. Although a systolic in the 150's isn't "extreme"..it sure isn't something to thumb our noses at either. Follow up with your ob-gyn as always.. :) take care!
