No. According to the Trades Union, the TUC, You are entitled to a rest break where your daily working time is *more* than six hours.

DTI guidelines state that the break should be taken during the six hour period, (not at the beginning or end of it), but otherwise at a time to be determined by the employer.

Mobile workers in road and rail transport have different rules. They must be given 'adequate' rest. Also, HGV and PSV road transport drivers have better entitlements through the Road Transport (Working Time) Regulations and the Tachograph Regulations that govern driving hours.

I'm afraid this is legal. You need to work more than 6 hours to be entitled to a break of 20 mins which should be taken away from your workstation where possible and during the work time. See the link below for further information. It makes no difference if you're a temp.

Regardless of wether it is temp or perm, the laws are the same in this Matter.

As per the Working time Regulations (WTR):
An employee is entitled to a rest of 20 minutes after 6 hours of work.

There is nothing wrong with what your employer is doing, and Its really easy to work 6 hours with no break.

It depends what your work is!

PC operators are entitled and advised to have a break from the pc screen for 10 mins in every hour!

Lorry drivers can not drive for more than eight hours.

If you work for eight hours you are entitled for a 45 min break so pro-rata for six hours, you should be entitled to a 30 min break or 2 x 15 min breaks.

You are entitled to a 15 minute break for every 4 hours you work. The only variation to this is if you work on computers in which case you should move away from you computer for 15 minutes in every hour.

it is illegal. 4 hours you are legally entitled to 15 mins, work 8 its 30 mins and 15 mins. But i've worked in a bar in a hotel and restaurant and they laughed when I asked for a break, that job is too demanding, so I complained becasue its illegal so they said just add extra hours on your shift so I got paid more :) for less work

Yes and no you are supposed to have a break if you work more than 4 hours but it can depend on your job ,as certain roles have slightly different rules.Check out the ACAS or DTI websites for rules on breaks for employees

yes it's legal. I believe that you are entitled by law to an uninterrupted break of 20 minutes whilst working an 8 hour day. Most employers give an hour lunch which is more than what the law requires.

Dont know about the UK, but in America it is not unless you agree to it.
Now, you can always complain. But chances are you will probably get fired. If this is a regular thing i would look for a new job. If its a one time or special situation and your boss appreciates what you did-dont worry about it.
