Two come immediately to mind:
1) "You have a lot of courage. Even when something completely terrifies you, you stand your ground, and you don't give up". The person who said this helped me more than he knew. For once, complimenting my attributes, not my appearance.
2) "You are going to Heaven for what you have here on Earth"- this from a Christian medical volunteer in Central America, after I translated for his staff and anesthesiologists for 3 days, while they did free surgeries for children with birth defects. He was hard-driven, very exacting, and very demanding- exactly what I would expect for someone in the medical profession. (Think "House") What I did not expect was the unsolicited compliment from this person as I said goodbye after the work was done. It was a beautiful experience.

I think the best compliment I've ever gotten is " I can be myself around you. You know me so I don't feel like I have to explain myself around you." I consider this a true compliment because it came from a good friend of mine. I like feeling that people trust me and can be themselves around me and not feel judged at all.

Well, lately my dad and everyone say I dress like a bum, so I guess the best compliment that has been given to me was, "you come to school looking nice everyday". I was told that by a girl that I totally despised...until she said that, of course.

I was told that I was beautiful by a complete stranger in a grocery store. But it was the weirdest thing. He wasn't really looking at my physical appearance. It was as though he was looking "into" me. He didn't linger and he didn't look me "up and down". He just held my gaze for a few seconds and then he was on his way. And for once, I really felt beautiful because I know that he somehow saw my heart.

I just had a baby four months ago, when was he was 2 months old a girl walked up to me in Wal-Mart and said, " You sure look good, you don't even look like you had a baby."

When I was in College would always say I was exotic looking. I used to love it because it made me feel special.

That I have nice hair. Or eyes. Actually no one ever says "You have nice eyes" They just say "Your eyes are very blue." Umm.....thanks??? for stating the apparent?
