There has been a lot of controversy about artificial sweetners not being good for the body. I sure wouldn't take the chance!
Read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspartame#Aspartame_controversy
Again, I wouldn't take chances with a baby. I've found that artificial sweetners aggrevate my IBS. Can't be that good for you!
Please note that not all my information comes from the internet; I was merely supplying reading material to you. My information comes from the fact that I know several people (including me) that have digestive reactions (notice I didn't say diabetes) from ingesting aspartame and sorbitol. The reaction of "you can't believe everything you hear" and calling cautious mothers zealots was the same when information about the effects of cigarette smoking first came out. Sometimes the warnings are true! I'm willing to bet that the artificial sweetners will have the surgeon general's warning in the next decade similar to what's on packs of cigarettes.

No. There are a lot of ZEALOTS out there that will tell you that Splenda, Equal, or Sweet & Low are poison, but that is 100% NOT TRUE. I have talked to several OB/GYNS, dietitians, and my own diabetic doctor, and they all told me it is safe. Almost my whole family is diabetic and no one in my family or in my diabetes support group have ever had a problem with them. I only know one person that has a problem and that is because she is allergic to Equal. You can't believe all the false info on the internet that is floating around about this. Anyone can post things on here with false info to try to scare people. Sugar is more dangerous to diabetics that any of the sugar substitutes that are out there.

Sweet substitutes have already been labeled as bad news for adults, imagine what happens starting the stuff on an infant. Don't experiment on a baby.

I put one packet in every glass of tea I drink, I was told by my doctor that it was fine. There is no concrete studies on the effects of artificial sugar on a fetus.

Experts say that artificial sweeteners are not good for unborn baby, but I don't think they know the exact effects of it on them. It's prob just like caffeine; a little is prob ok, but I wouldn't overdo it.

There is evidence that certain sweeteners are not safe during pregnancy. There is evidence that even babies that carry the PKU gene can be damaged by aspartame. Saccharine is questionable during pregnancy.

Well, it's not as healthy as sugar regardless if you're pregnant or not... so if I were you I would probably just stick with the natural sugar.
