If you kill yourself and then wake up in a dark room with goop on you, then you are a Cylon.
If you wake up in the same way but also have to pull a giant plug out of your spine, the you just escaped from the Matrix.
Another Cylon indication might be finding another person that looks just like you but does not come from your family.
