Also, when danton was cloning himself, he was killing off the clones, right\? But he said that he didnt know whether he would be the guy drowning or the guy on the balcony, right? So what does that mean? One last thing, why didnt he want that old guy to be backstage? So he wouldnt see he was cloning himself?

Borden told Angier (Danton) after he shot him that he had a twin.
Angier supposedly was killing off the clones but, like the hats, wasn't the clone the one that re-appears in another place?
Angier didn't want Cutter backstage because he didn't want Cutter to know about the cloning and the killing off of the clones. That's why Angier hired the blind guy.

Danton did not want Cutter (the old guy, as you put it) backstage because he didn't want Cutter to see the clones getting drowned. I don't understand why he said that about not knowing whether he would be in the box or the balcony. He found out that Borden (the other guy) was a twin from reading the journal and realizing that Borden had not purchased a machine from Tesla after all.
By the way, the "old guy" was played by Michael Caine, an excellent actor.

ok
1st- Danton knew that Alfred Borden ("he other guy") was a twin because he saw him in prison to be hanged and then later saw him out of prison, thus explaining many questions that he had, especially the method to "the transporting man"
2nd- It means that he had to perform every night knowing he was going to die, which is what he considered to be of great sacrifice for the performance
3rd- the old guy backstage was because after the water escape (which was the first trick in the act) the tank was moved down below the stage by the old guy. by the way, the old guy didn't know about the drowning, he was blind

alfred told him at the end that he had a twin after he shot him. yeah, the machine was cloning him and he didnt know whether he would be the guy in the tank of water or not. He didnt want the "old guy" backstage because the old guy would prolly see his clone in the tank and try to save him but he didnt want the clone to still live.
