When I was younger, I was always teased for being dark skinned and it hurt me so much to this day people still comment about my skin. When I was little I used to cry, I did.nt want to go to school. It made me wish that I was lighter and to this day I still do. I just don't understand, after all of the stuff about segregation, slavery that our people went through black people are so ignorat against their own people.

To Love Blue and anyone else, I didn't mean for it to sound like all black people are prejudice, Also, I know that people of all races can be prejudice, so the question is now Why are people prejudice against their own race? ,thanks you to everyone who commented.

Every race has people who are prejudice against their own race. Trust me, I am a lot of races! Haha, it's just the way some people are, not just black people in particular.

A culture of prejudice affects all the people in the culture, even the group being persecuted. You can't undo the past hurts but being a beautiful black woman who is strong and smart perhaps you can help stop this pain for a new generation. Embrace how god made you, Dark, Bright, Black or White and be a living example of a slogan made popular 30-40 years ago, Black is beautiful. I wish you luck and love

I put up with the same crap. I was told by several blacks that I was "too dark to be pretty". Funny thing was, I was often told by friends of other races that I had a gorgeous complexion. I got frustrated big time, but I never wished to be lighter. I only wished that people would stop being so ignorant. Some say this has its roots in slavery, but that's no excuse for treating people in such a rotten way. The people who do this must realize that treating others of our race in such a backwards manner is egregiously defeatist.

Bottom line: Some people in this world are just small-minded and ignorant and want to find ways to tear you down and make you feel bad about yourself.

Oh, so every black person in the world is prejudiced against their own race? Do you understand what a stereotypical statement that is?

I'm black, and I'm not prejudiced against anyone, much less other black people. Yes, some black people buy into the the skin color thing, but not all of us do. Who gives a crap how light or dark someones skin color is?

I think it's really unfortunate that you posted your comment here, because it's not true. You need to learn to be happy in your own skin - whatever color it is. Comments like yours just open the door for racist a-holes like Azn Life to respond.

Prejudice is prejudging a individual. it quite is very distinctive from no longer liking or being bodily/sexually fascinated in a particular individual or to a particular race or style. a individual's narrow concepts or intolerance can cause them to unlike a particular race. So can a foul journey with extra than a number of people of a particular race which comprise their very own. it quite isn't the comparable as asserting to a chum "Latino men do no longer turn me on" or "White women do no longer something for me" or " i do no longer locate Asian women sexually alluring." I hate white people or i'm no longer able to stand Mexicans is extra racism than prejudice. Prejudice to me is asserting i might in no way hire a Frenchman because of the fact they sleep on the job. Or i might in no way have faith a Lebanese housekeeper; they'll thieve you blind or i will in no way have faith a white guy with my daughter. i think there's a great distinction. it extremely is unacceptable to be a racist or to be prejudiced against a race. it extremely is socially suitable to no longer be attracted sexually to all and sundry. we don't administration what turns us on or off. It in all probability is going back to adolescence stories, the place we lived, first sexual interplay and different factors. we won't administration those issues, we are in a position to administration and handle old hatred, and recover from our preconceived notions that we are more suitable to all and sundry else.

In every culture and race there are prejudice. It is human nature to try to be superior to the next guy even if it is his brother. Any idiot who thinks that this is just a black thing, check who stabbing you behind your back is most likely related or of the same race as you are. Germans hated Jews, last I checked they are both white people.

You touched on the reason exactly in your question. It's because everyone learns from an early age that dark=bad and light=good. Obviously that's not true, but when immersed in that mentality, that's what we all learn to believe.

Check out this short documentary made by a black female, interviewing her peers on what it means growing up learning to hate oneself (youtube link below).

EDIT: oops, another answerer above posted the same video!

Actually many people will give you a line about how African americans were in slavery and lost there identity, then they will tell you about the light skinned and dark skinned treatement during slavery, poverty and other things contribute to ignorance but the fact is I know of no race who does not hold prefudices to there and other races. It depends on the person not the race.

It's true that some people are like that, but you have to also understand that children are cruel. They pick on each other mercilessly!!! People, when they grow up, still sometimes carry that mentality and much of the time it's jealousy that makes them pick on you. I know this from other experiences. Don't wish you were lighter. The blacker the berry....

It's sad to hear that you had to hear such nonsense. I bet you are a very lovely girl. It's just the way people have been conditioned. It's not just among blacks. I have heard the same complaint among Indians too. Have you seen the Japanese women who paint their faces white? You may find this funny, but I have also heard white people complain about someone being too white.
