I am looking for a way to spend my time that will help keep me as fit as if i were a runner or involved in a school sport. I would like to know if biking can fit these requirements and if so, how much biking needs to be done. Will biking help me run the mile? Will it keep my interest? Any thoughts appreaciated.

Biking is good for hours of sustained moderate exercise. The good stuff because of the lack of joint shock. Use a 1 to 1 scale for comparison to running.

No not really, biking is good for you but you need to do a lot of it for it to be really beneficial. riding a bike for 2 hours is the equivalent to running for 30min.
