The Indiana University Kinsey Reports stated 37% of males and 13% of females had homosexual experiences, but this includes incidental homosexual experience. The study reported 10% of males being more or less exclusively homosexual and 2% to 6% of females being more or less exclusively homosexual.
A 1990 study (Homosexuality/Heterosexuality by McWhirter, Sanders, and Reinisch) stated 13.95% of males and 4.25% of females had "extensive" or "more than incidental" homosexual experience.
A 1993 study (The Janus Report on Sexual Behavior) found 9% of men and 5% of women were involved in frequent or ongoing homosexual experiences, but only 4% of men and 2% of women called themselves homosexual. This difference can be attributed as those who were 'out' and those who were 'closeted'.
Due to the similarities of the findings of all three studies, it appears that the number of male homosexuals is approximately 11.0% and the number of female homosexuals is approximately 4.5%. It also appears that only half of those who are truly homosexual are "out".
(The percentage of gays & lesbians + bisexuals is estimated to be approximately 26%)

This question is never accurately answered. Surveys, census, testing they all give different figures. The lowest ranges from about 4-5% with the highest being about 20%. Most people take 10% as a reasonable assessment, up to about 15%.
Gay men and women seem to be about teh same percentage, it is only when you factor in bi-sexuality that the figures differ. There appear to be more bi-sexual women than men, but it is a difficult thing to measure. Most estimates place female bi-sexuality at about 33% not including gay women.

I don’t think you’ll ever know for sure. A lot of people aren’t honest with themselves about their own sexuality, so they’re not going to be honest in any survey.
I’ll tell you something I thought was interesting. I’m a gay guy and have often wondered how many other guys are gay. What I didn’t realise was the massive amount of married bisexual men there are. Go to any gay internet chat site and they’re nearly all married men. People seem to be shocked when they find out who is “gay”, but I think there would be a lot more shocks if we all found out who was bisexual. All that “5% to 10%” stuff is rubbish, there’s a lot more guys having sex with other guys than that.

Since the census never asks about sexual orientation, there's no way to know...
But its generally estimated to be between 7 and 12 % from most sociological data...
Where do you get your numbers? Why would there be more lesbians--so many more lesbians--than gay men?

hello.......have you been in the world lately? First, you can not give an accurate percentage without an accurate survey.......so your "polling" is stupid..............who do you think we are Gallop? And I believe that more men are gay, well at least above 5% and lesbians are not that high.............some les like to keep relationship quiet, while queens rule the dance floor..........you really should google this for accurate data befor spewing your ridiculous "results"

OMG where on earth did you get your figures lol. but seriously 5 to 10% sounds about right, and as for the women it's hard to say because they are not the attention seekers that men are so they are usually standing in the shadows making it hard to count them.

You wish to know. Gay and lesbians are everywhere you go in this world. You won't and can't escape gay and lesbian at all. We are like cockroaches, people just can't get rid of us. You might find one of your family members is gay... who knows.
