I am a novice gardener and last summer I planted perennials. Is there anything I should do to help them become the beautiful plants that they are.

Something I've heard and found true: The first year they sleep, the second year they creep and the third year they leap. Meaning, this year give them some fertilizer and watch them start to grow. Next year you'll probably have to thin them out and fertilize in the spring

They will need a booster shot of fertilizer, and water and that is about it, you can give them liquid feed with a hose end sprayer, the fertilizer come with it or you can buy some timed release fert. and dig around the plant and spead the fert. around where you dug, if you use a hose end sprayer make sure you water long enough to soak the roots, this goes for any time you water, with or with out fertilizer, add some new mulch, straw or pine or cypress chips.
