I kind of talked about this in my last question. I want to write about something that will help people. I'm under 18, so a lot of topics worth writing about are too dangerous for me. I'd love to visit Uganda or Sri Lanka and write about the child soldiers there, or write about the sex slaves in America. I just want to help raise awareness about important issues. Can anyone tell me some topics and issues that need addressing and that I should write about? I would really appreciate all of your ideas. Thanks!

I'm totally with the answerer before me - teen pregnancy and drug use...
How about sexually transmitted diseases, alcoholism, gangs and teen violence, too? It's easy to throw a punch or pick up a knife/gun to settle a problem, right? (I'm being argumentative here.) But then what? Consequences?
I had some 8th grade students (2 years teaching in a middle school and we're talking less than 30 kids total) - 1 had a baby, 1 or 2 fathered a baby; 1 had a parent that had committed suicide, most had a relative/immediate family member that had either been murdered or was serving time, 1 was shot in a drive-by sitting in his apartment (probably due to mother's involvement with drugs), a few had been sexually molested, one spent a year in a drug treatment center and three wore ankle bracelets as 7th graders for stealing a bus; one tried to hold up a convenience store and another was known by name in juvenile hall; two had weopons at school and one was arrested for pushing a sub the day I was absent. Some of these are the same kids, but the fact is I'm not talking about a huge city, though it was one of the lowest performing middle schools in the state.
It'd be GREAT to hear teen voices about so many of the things faced and how to deal with them. Maybe some of them would listen and make it past their 21st birthdays. Go for it!

OK, I'll bite here's a few.
Research how the socialist, leftist and communist have taken over the environmental movement and are using environmental issues to trample individual freedom.
Or how the teachers unions are standing the way of better education.
How the government created the health care crisis by instituting medicare programs.
How the Welfare program destroyed black families.
Where is the social security trust fund. And what really happened to the extra money being paid into the social security system. When will it really go broke when it goes negative on the books or when its cash flow becomes negative.
Does the USDA really make our food safer or just provide jobs for government employees.
What is the purpose of federal highway taxes. To fund road projects or leverage over the State governments and pork to divide up among ruling party politicians.
Is government funded research better than privately funded research.
Does it make sense to subsidize the production of ethanol. When doing so drives up the cost of grains as a food source.
Have government fuel economy standards for motor vechicles actually caused the deaths of over 40,000 U.S. citizens.
Do EPA regulations requiring 55 different blends of gasoline for summer use have as much impact on gasoline prices as the price of crude oil.
Do the U.S. Income tax and payroll tax structure put the U.S. at a trade dissadvantage. Do they also create corruption as the tax code is manipulated to favor one group or another.

What about sexism in our workplaces, culture, and sports? If you do a bit of research you can find some really shocking stats or you can even coduct your own little experiment to prove your point.
Or maybe you can write about poverty in our own backyard- visit shelters, talk to people on the streets, and you might be able to get some first hand testimonials.
There are a million other issues to consider as well, such as high teen suicide rates and global warming.

Hi there......
I would suggest that for the time being you should confirm to issues which are age appropriate and things you have experienced in your life.
A topic on child soldiers won't be easy....it is a very deep topic and without knowing all the facts it would be unfair to pursue a story in that line.
Issues I see that you can talk about are teen pregnancies and drug use, divorce and how it affects families, dropping out on school, teen suicide.......these are some of the things I see on a daily basis in TV. (I assume you are from Americas. Excuse me for that)
I hope this helps.
Good luck dear.

A big issue that was confronted in my social issues was divorce... I think awareness is deffinetly needed. the rates of divorce are ridiculous and I think that there needs to be like a law making a couple go through therapy before divorcing... It has a huge impact on the children and something needs to be done.
