First of all: I think you're being very brave for doing an article on gay people for your class. I wouldn't worry about people laughing at you either about this or about anything else that you think deserves to be discussed. Your classmates probably felt safe that they were in their seats and you were the one getting laughed at. People are pack-animals; they need to feel part of a gang that accepts them in order to feel secure. I am certain that that is why all of them laughed. I am also certain that if you discussed your article one-on-one, there wouldn't be mocking laughter. I think that secretly most of the kids in your class were rather envious of your courage and maturity.

Laughing at things like that is just a sign of incredible immaturity. Your classmates need to grow up and go out into the real world. Gays are apart of this world, just as much as they are and they need to get over themselves and be a little more considerate. I have a gay friend, but i'm basically the only person he's told. He's scared to come out because he doesn't think he'll be accepted. It's people like your classmates that put people like him in such horrible situations. He's been *out* for like 3 years...and yet he can't come out to anyone but a few close friends? it's disgusting.

Some times when people are hostile or even laugh regarding gays, they are hiding their own homosexual feelings and urges. I'm not gay and I have no problem with them. What they do behind closed doors is none of my business. They chose how to life their life and I chose how to live mine. It's nobody's place to judge! As for the class, they are either too immature or they feel homosexual urges that they feel they must laugh off because they don't want their feelings brought to light. I hope that helps!

I'm with you...a person is a person at face value...do they judge me by my sexual preference? How do they know what my preference is? They don't ... they must assume that I am straight.
I thing the 'gay rights' movement' helped and hurt the 'gay community'. They want equal rights for what you and I and others do nightly without having to march for it. They called too much attention to themselves in some ways and opened up their private lives and bedroom doors. In some ways it would have been better to not have to explain what we do in our beds...
I never judge people by their sexual preference...but, by the way they interact with me.
You are allowed your opinions/beliefs and your fellow classmates usually fear that which they have no knowledge of........Homosexually is a sin according to the Bible but I am not God ... I cannot/will not judge.

I think your friends/classmates were just being juvenile. It's not really an issue until they start beating gays or others for no reason.

The Will is positive, the Judgment is negative. Homosexuality is both choice and different natural determination. People of your age are going through a natural process for identity formation, are nervous and highly value the opinion of others, perhaps in the absence of scientific discipline. I think there is probably much less hostility than you fear, but enough hostile people to justify fear.
Generally heterosexuals find the same sex love issue as a taint on friendship between heteros of the same sex. They see it as a devaluation or degradation in simple same sex non-sexual friendship. In the identity formation stage in psychological development this is particularly troublesome. I think most healthy individuals get over it.
"Erikson's theory of personality
Main article: Erikson's stages of psychosocial development
Although Erikson always insisted that he was a Freudian, subsequent authors have described him as an "ego psychologist," insofar as, in contrast to the stress laid in orthodox Freudianism on the id, Erikson emphasised the ego. Perhaps the most conspicuous way in which his theory differs from that of Freud is that, in contrast to Freud's list of stages that take development up through adolescence, Erikson lists eight stages of development, spanning the entire lifespan. Each of Erikson's stages of psychosocial development are marked by a conflict, for which successful resolution will result in a favourable outcome, for example, trust vs. mistrust, and by an important event that this conflict resolves itself around, for example, weaning.
Stage One Oral-Sensory: from birth to one, trust vs. mistrust, feeding;
Stage Two Muscular-Anal: 1-3 years, autonomy vs.doubt, toilet training;
Stage Three Locomotor: 3-6 years, initiative vs.inadequacy, independence;
Stage Four Latency: 6-12 years, industry vs.inferiority, school;
Stage Five Adolescence: 12-18 years, identity vs.confusion, peer relationships;
Stage Six Young Adulthood: 18-40 years, intimacy vs.isolation, love relationships;
Stage Seven Middle Adulthood: 40-65 years, generativity vs.stagnation, parenting;
Stage Eight Maturity: 65 years until death, integrity vs.despair, acceptance of one's life. "

Gays exist from Siberia to Africa and anyone that thinks it's just a choice is uneducated.
