i have pain in my shoulder(which i read can be a sign to ectopic pregnancies) and in my lower stomach and was wondering if i took a pregnancy test, would it be positive if it was outside the uterus?

yes it would be positive if there was a pregnancy outside the uterus, if you are having pain that is related to a possible ectopic you need to go to the nearest Emergency Room as soon as possible as a ruptured tube can be life threatning.

Yes, if you were pregnant, even with an ectopic, the test would be positive. I had one a year ago. The only way to diagnose and ectopic is via ultrasound. Typically you would have other symptoms too, such as spotting and pelvic pain on one side. The earlier it is diagnosed, the better, so your doctor can remove the pregnancy and save your tube and future fertility. A ruptured tube is life threatening.

The way I understand it, the egg once fertilized starts putting off a hormone that tells your body that you are pregnant. Regardless of whether the egg is actually properly attached to the inside of your womb or somewhere in one of your fallopian tubes, it will register the same on a pregnancy test.

You'll probably need an ultrasound to tell you where the fertilized egg has attached itself.

I will add that this is the first time that I've heard that a pain in your shoulder is a sign of an ectopic pregnancy. Whereas, it is possible, I personally find that a silly concept.

Yes, a pregnancy test should read positive, regardless of where the egg implants itself in your body.

If you suspect an ectopic pregnancy, get to the ER or OB/GYN immediately. Of course, you could have another serious medical problem instead such as heart condition. I know a woman who was told her gallbladder was bad and then she collapsed from shortness of breath weeks later. She worked in the hospital and was rushed upstairs to the ER. They found that she had a heart blockage and needed emergency surgery.

It would still usually show positive but sometimes shows a fainter line than if the pregnancy was in the womb. I suggest you get yourself checked out by a doctor as soon as possible. Ectopic pregnancy's are dangerous even fatal if not caught in time.

I believe that if you are pregnant it will show up on a pregnancy test wherever the fetus is located. You can;t tell by a test like that if it is an ectopic pregnancy. Please see a doctor, they are the only ones who will be able to tell for sure.

Yes it would be positive but you need to fast have your primary doctor, OBGYN, ER to find out if it is ectopic or not.
You can't afford to mess/play around with this. If it is ectopic the longer it is there the more serious or even life threatening it can become.

Only an ultrasound can tell whether it is in your tubes or not. It will show up on a pregnancy test that your pregnant even though it is in your tubes. You should go to the er asap because that is very dangerous.
