Tried adjusting the kick back cable has anyone got any more ideas.

My Bmw done exactly this & it was low on transmission fluid..gearbox oil ; )

Ok the oil level check/change thing might well be the problem. As far as I know the reason it changes when you rev it is because reving the engine increases the speed of the ATF pump and therefore the hydraulic pressure in the gearbox. Perhaps your ATF pump is a bit worn or one of your valves is and therefore the box is having difficulty reaching a correct pressure band?
One thing you could try is the Auto gearbox additive that LUCAS make....supposed to help increase pressure.
Ive had all these problems, had the box rebuilt and now I seem to have the problem of a little too much pressure!!!

Check you have enough of the correct type of automatic gearbox oil in it.

Check the colour using the dipstick. It should be a clear red colour.

If it is brown, then it's had it. You will need to replace the oil and filter in the gearbox.
