Space, man, space. Space travel, satellites, exploration.
I guess because there were a bunch of kids who were bored during the 50s and they wanted to break out. Times were still OK as far as money went, but there were a lot more drugs and better music and better clothes and hairstyles and kids were all about getting out and experiencing life.
There were civil rights, women's rights, hippies dancing around with flowers in their hair...everybody was idealistic because they hadn't been through Watergate and all the assassinations yet (JFK, RFK, MLK, Medgar Evers, the Kent State shootings) and the Manson family and all that sh!t that went down later on in the decade.
Peace, love, and happiness pretty much got shot to bits in 1969.
And the 70s were miserable. Good music, everything else sucked.
As far as I can remember--I was born in '78.

Well, the govt along with the feminists tricked women to believe that they were subjected and oppressed to get rights. Well, they never asked me. Now women have to hold a job and risk losing her job if she even disciplines the kid. Also, the music of course created a very loose knit society that had this attitude and belief that if it feels good do it. Unfortunately because of that we now have people who only think with their feelings, do not have logic of common sense. Of course I know I am guilty of this myself. I am pretty sure there are many other examples. As far as the fashion is concerned I have been told alot of fashions from those days were derived from the 1920s. And, of course we had better T.V programs as well. The programs were designed towards family values and not violence and sex. Every generation has their pros and cons. Just like Elvis was considered Satan because of hip move.

The civil rights movement, the music, the assassinations of the Kennedys and MLK, the anti-war protests, and the sexual revolution made the 60's phenominal, as well as turbulent.
