DVD plays on a home DVD but not on my Computer.?

I have a home DVD recorder (Sony RDR) and I have to transfer a VHS tape to a DVD so that I can then store it on the computer. That was my plan, I burned the DVD and it plays fine on the DVD player but once I put it in my computer it treats is as if it's blank or says "Please insert disk". Why?

After you are done recording to the dvd, you need to go into the setting menu and finalize the disk so other players can use it.
