Hi radwinw,

Most prerecorded tapes have copy protection and will not copy. If you want to copy prerecorded movies for your own backups you can buy a device that bypasses the copy guard for about $25.

I had some store bought movies so I got the device to bypass the copy guard and it worked fine. I got it at Best Buy. It is called a "GO-DVD" made by Simo Co.

In addition to bypassing the copy guard it enhances the video.

Sorry, commercial VHS movies have macrovision protection and you can't copy them using a DVD recorder.

If you like the movie, just buy the DVD; you will get 6 channels of audio and much much better video quality.
