My first boss, years ago said, "Only one MP in a thousand is honest" (658 MP's in the house of commons) that answer your question?, I don't trust them as far as I can throw them!

I believe there are some good ones. And many are victims of those who work under or with them. You have to understand tho that this is nothing new. It's been going on since the very first goverment and will continue on as long as someone can be bought. It's not right but a fact of life. The last two administrations have been the results of a lot of witch hunting and it's hurting our country.

Is there any wonder why we do not trust them.
When was the last time we got tax cuts,
oh I remember under the last great PM Margaret Thatcher.
You want to know why she was honest, we all knew she was on the take but she dam well made sure the rest of us could have a slice of the pie as well.
Unlike New Labour who keep the lot for themselves and still try to think up more ways to tax us, and if you think I am a Tory lover think again Cameron and his shade of red/blue boys are just as bad

I think most politicians ( i say most not all) start off with good intentions about how they can best serve the country and the people, then power corrupts and they get complacent and forget what they where elected to do in this first place.

Politicians have their own interests. They act as though they want to do what is best for you, the country. But in reality most, when faced with any issue, are simply reviewing in their minds how what they think or say will look in the archives later on.
Few are to be trusted. And they don't really care. After all, so many came before them and will come after them who are and will be untrustworthy also.

There is a joke that they are like diapers that they need to be changed as often and for the same reasons.
Elected politicicians are better than unelected ones in most cases. To get elected, even the most idealistic guy has to make tons of compromises. Once elected if he wants to accomplish anything, he needs to make more compromises.
This is likely life.

The reason that the ones who rise to the fore all forced to lie like thieves is due to the fact that their rise can be attributed to financial contributions by the wealthy whose interests they agree to represent contrasted by the fact that they are attempting to acquire votes from a working class public.
The interests of the wealthy elite are diametrically opposite to those of the working class. The only way you can represent one while pursuing the votes of the other is through sophistry and blatant lying.

Is there such a thing as an honest politician? I think that what happens is, they suddenly get afraid they might lose that lovely cushy job, so they start saying anything to hang on to it! then they find they can't do what they promised, and around we go again. You are very right!

they are the law makers and break the law them themselves!! drugs, sex, property scandals. They all prove one thing, we are all human and cant seem to stick to the "system" which is nothing like human behaviour, look at the system Hitler had devised, evil, oppressive, in search for the "perfect race" the truth is we can never be perfect, least of all politicians with all that power, it proves power corrupts
