I am trying to use my new web cam on windows xp
After using the install disk and then rebooting and plugging in the camera it states
"you have no video capture hardware for you pc"

The hardware is surely the camera itself.
I already had this web cam working on another computer with windows 98se no problem, so I am stuck.

The webcam may not be compatible with XP. Windows 98 is a very different system to XP. Check on the web for driver updates for the camera, usually on the manufacturer's website and then reinstall. Plug the camera in and fingers crossed. At least webcams are pretty cheap these days, just get an XP compatible one if no joy.

go to the camera manufacturers website and download the drivers for windows XP. Windows 98 drivers will not work with XP.

Are you using USB? Perhaps the cable? Try a different one, maybe. Or find your drivers and check them. Should the camera be plugged in while you are installing it? Worth a try, unless it says not in the instructions.
