Your clinician will explain when you should start taking the pill. Taking the pill at the same time each day makes it more effective — pick a time of day that is easy to remember.
If you start the combination pill within five days after the start of your period, take the first active pill of the first pack. You will not need to use a back up method of birth control. You are protected against pregnancy immediately.
If you start the combination pill at any other time during your menstrual cycle, take the first active pill of the first pack. Use another method of birth control if you have vaginal intercourse during the first week of combination pill use — protection will begin after seven days.
You may start the progestin-only pill at any time. Use another method of birth control if you have vaginal intercourse during the first 48 hours of progestin-pill use — protection will begin after two days.
Taking the progestin-only pill at the same time each day is essential — if you take it more than three hours past the regular time, you need to use a back up method of birth control for 48 hours after taking the late pill.
Please read the info that comes with your pills or look on their website for their patient prescribing info or read the link below. It will verify this.

the doctor would tell you to wait a complete pill cycle (make sure that you have taken them ALL correctly during that cycle) ... however Cosmopolitan Magazine recently had an article stating that it ok to have unprotected sex while on birth control after only ONE WEEK of taking pills correctly. I would do what the doctor said. However, I think I would wear a condom, too, if you are REALLY worried. Birth control pills are not 100% effective and what are the odds that you will remember to take EVERY pill at the EXACT SAME TIME everyday?

Your doctor should've explained this to you but most forms of pill I've ever known it was always recommended (to be on the safe side) to take a full pack, have your period, and then you could consider yourself safe from pregnancy (as safe as your form of pill allows, typically up to 99%).

wait 1-2 weeks, or up to a month if you want to-----some doctors say that you should wait until you get your first "Pill" period, but I waited like 1 week like my doctor said. other doctors say to wait 2-3 months so it can get in your system and work the best.

If you read the fine, fine print on the package, it states that he must deposit the goods within a certain time window. After you swallow it, I think it's 15 minutes.
