Marquis is a Title, such as Baron or Duke, and the De Sade part is his surname. So instead of being called Mr. De Sade, he is called the Marquis De Sade.

This guy was a French Writer and published ' writings that had to do with the sexual term "sadism". He was both a rapist, tortorer and murderer. Sadism means enjoyment of cruely & gets sexual gratification from being cruel
