i have just moved in with my dad a couple of weeks ago. My next door neighbour bedroom is on the other side of mine ( if u know what i mean) well for the past 5 day AND nights he has been hammering constantly, in the night he has also been drilling against my wall from midnight - 3am - for the last 5 nights. also at night he wonders in and out of his shed. the door of his shed has loads of locks on the front. also around 10pm every night i can here whistling, not whistling a tune more whistling for attention, cracks at the top corner of my bedroom wall which joins onto his are starting to appear. Do you think he could be spying on me? He always starts the banging when my bedroom light goes off. and he is on his door step when i leave the house. what do u guys think ?

i've tried to tell my dad, but he's drunk most of the time! I was originally in my dads room, but he told me we had to change coz he wanted the bigger room. i will only be here for 6 weeks but still it's freaky!

thanks for all the comments. I have no reason to believe he is winding me up, he lives alone and is about 40 years of age, i have done nothing at all to offend him - i haven't even spoke to him!!!!

doesn't sound like normal behaviour to me. Try to have a polite word with him about the noises, better if you have someone with you for support, it could also embaress him and do the trick. If you are really worried try the police on a non-emergency number, they should have some advice.....unless it is the police station next door!!

With all due respect to you, and not to get into detail we really didn't need on a personal level, I suspect this is an APARTMENT?

Since the issue involves YOU personally, and even if you haven't seen any "tiny" holes on your wall side, go to the management of the apartment, or the owners.

Certainly it may be completely innocent. I work nights for instance and my days are spent either with my Music playing loud, or others are negotiating THEIR OWN lives while I'm trying to sleep.

Finally, and with no offense meant at all, find a way to MOVE out as fast as you can.

I see so many who suggest Tell DAD! I think you explained that process might not have any effect, SIGH.

tell your dad a.s.a.p and repair the cracks in the walls. Also have your dad talk to him. That would creep me out soo much! If it doesn't stop soon call the police, not as an emergency, but just a report. They can charge him with destrubing the peace. Good luck and really don't let this just pass by, he could be doing other things at night cuz he's hinding something. It could be anything.

If you cant have a word with him keep a brief diary of what is going on for a few days, a recording of the noise if possible and when you have proof of whats going on report it to your local environmental health office and the police, they will stop the noise and any strange practises, goings on. As for the cracks in the walls I'm afraid i think you will have to try and have a word with your dad when he is sober. unless you stay in a council house, if you do they will sort that problem out for you as well. Be carefull.

He sounds like a strange bird all right. Can't your dad report him to the manager or someone? That hammering alone is very rude, not to mention, noisy & hard to get to sleep. I hope he's not installing a peep hole so as to peek at you. Your dad needs to handle the situation, now!!!!!!!
