Try this:

Get one ball of yarn, about 2 ounces of worsted weight (size 4) and a pair of size 8 knitting needles.

Go to www.knittinghelp.com and watch the videos on setting your tension, knitting and purling.

Watch how she holds the yarn, her hands, and says the little mantra to form each stitch.

Cast on 20 stitches, and complete the whole ball of yarn, making sure you finish a row before setting the knitting down so that you don't lose stitches.

This will give you a good start; good luck and happy stitching!

When you slip a stitch you are not putting the wool/ yarn around the needle, when you knit a stitch you say each time , in over through and off. In through the stitch on the left hand needle, wrap the wool around the needle draw the needle back toward's you and slip off the needle. maybe your holding the stitches too near the top of the needles.

Slipping a stitch is as easy as knitting two stitches together or slipping the last stitched on one needle over the other stitch on the other needle.

Decrease (I know you did not ask, but you will), make a stitch then put back on the other needle and stitch into it again. It may look like a large whole, but it will all work itself out after a few rows.
