I have played roller hockey for 8 years and I am thinking about starting to play ice hockey. Is it worth it? I am pretty good at roller hockey and I was told it will be like learning from scratch when you make that transition. Should I change? is there anything I can do that will help me with the transition?

The big question is do you know how to ice skate? I used to play roller hockey for about 4 years and then when I tried to switch, it was like trying to learn how to walk all over again. Each person is different, keep in mind. For some people, it is very easy for them to make the transfer from roller to ice and vice versa. There's a lot more to changing over then just being able to skate, but it's one of the biggest points in my mind. It's all up to you and how you feel about it. I would suggest try skating if you already haven't and if you do like it, go for it.

I was in your shoes a few months ago... I decided to try it out...
The truth is both are very different (skating techniques).
The roller blades emphesize grip and turning while ice skates deal alot more with balance and speed.
It'll be very hard I'm sorry to say..
But I also think Roller Hockey is 10000x more fun ;)

go ice. roller sucks, no hitting i'm 12 and played ice for 7 years and 2 time state champ and i play roller for fun in the summer and ice is much better, just because of hitting.

tnick is right about the skates thing..BUT i dont think roller hockey is 10000 times funner if it is slower.
