It is typically the 23rd (last) pair that shows gender (XX = female, and features two large chromosomes and XY = male, denoted by one large and one small chromosome in the karyotype). Wikipedia has an example of a karyotype, if you would like to see one.

The sex chromosomes are the XX or XY that are generally the last pair of chromosomes shown on a karyotype. Look at the lower right-hand corner of the karyotype to find these. If the last pair matches, it's a girl XX. If the last pair has one long chromosome and one short one, it's a boy XY.
