Does it have anything to do with ancient times? I would like to know

Flea market comes from the French "marché aux puces", a name originally given to a market in Paris. The fleas were thought to be in the goods, because they were of the kind to attract vermin. The earliest English use found dates from 1922.

I would imagine it has something to do with ancient times. Imagine before modern inovation how likely it would be to find fleas in clothing products in the market.

Look at the people who go to flea markets. It's easy to see why there is an epidemic number of fleas there with all of the inbred nascar fans with two teeth and big beer guts walking around saying "well damn that's a good deal" and buying things that ought to be in trash heaps instead of on someone's lawn as a night light.

and sold at the early used items markets...
