If you have a home phone, dsl may be cheaper for you. I have dsl with 3mb download speed......Which is exactly what I had with cable.......So as far as internet speed, they are both fast.....
If you dont have a home phone the cheapest route would be cable......

Cable, a phone connection doesn't hold a candle to a cable connection, especially some of the newer ones that are connected to a fiber network. A phone line can only handle so much information, 56 kb with 8kb of overhead, while cable/dsl and up can handle much more. I use cable and at non peak times i can get 1.5-2.0 Mbps downloads.
