I like realistic fiction books too and these are some books I could recommend to you:

The Clique series-Lisi Harrison
Gossip Girl series-Cecily von Ziegesar
The It Girl series-Cecily von Ziegesar
Confessions of a Teen Nanny series-Victoria Ashton
Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen-Dyan Sheldon (it was also made into a movie)
any book by Cynthia Voigt (we had to read Homecoming, the first book in the series for school and my class liked it so much, that many of us kept reading the other books)

There are a lot more but i can't think of any more right now. You can also ask a librarian at your local library for suggestions. At my library, they have pamphlets with book recommendations based on what topic you're looking for. You never know, they could have it at your library too!

I Capture the Castle.

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

Fried Green Tomatoes at Whistle Stop Cafe.

Cold Sassy Tree.

My Antonia, (very short)

The Color Purple.

There's a big difference between being 13 and being 17, so this was a tough question to answer. Good luck and have fun reading.

I know you don't like books more than 300 hundreds pages. BUT there is a book called the mammoth book of new historical whodunits edited by Mike Ashley. It is a very thick book, but it is not one story. There are many many stories in it, all true murder mysteries set up like a fiction story. Very interesting book. you can flip around and pick and choose what story you'd like to read.

otherwise there are a lot of books based in the 1700's less than 300 pages, target has a great selection if you go to one one the new ones.

Depends on what kind of story you like. Some of the old classics are good places to start. The secret garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. My sister loved the Anne of green gables books. (trying to think of books that are both realistic fiction and short ^^;;;; fantasy lover here myself...or I would have plenty of recommendations otherwise) But...exact age would help...the boxcar children series was good. if you like quasi-fantasy (meaning it takes what would be considered fantastical elements usually but are presented in a realistic way) My sister Sif is a good book. Ohh...and Bridge to terabithia (the book...not the movie ~_~;; )

Okay, well ... if you are into those love stories that make you cry (like me ...), anything by Nicholas Sparks is AWESOME ! I would recomend "At First Sight" or "The Notebook" or "A Walk To Remember" ... those are his best. I would tell you more authors, but I really don't follow one in particular ... Except Nicholas Sparks and J.K. Rowling ... and you said no Harry Potter ... lol ... I hope you find some you like ... ^^
