I ask for names, because it usually comes up with better names than I find in a baby book, and much faster. We are still trying to find names and it helps to get ideas from other people. I don't care whether people like them, its just more for my husband and I to choose from.

I think that if you're having a tough time finding a name that you and your partner love it's always great to get some feedback. Plus sometimes people may come up with a name that you hadn't thought of but when you see it a light goes off and you know you've found the perfect name.
Not to mention the fact that perhaps you post a list of names you like and get opinions on what others think about the names.
Just my 2 cents :0)

I'm not pregnant right now but have one daughter. My husband and I picked her name out ourselves without any suggestions from anybody. She has his mom's middle name. If we ever have another girl, I want to give her my mom's middle name (Carol). My husband and I can't seem to agree on a first name that would go good with Carol so I asked people on Y!A. I was just trying to get some more ideas so we could hopefully decide on a name if we do get another girl sometime. I don't see a problem with people asking other people what names they like.

Some people just aren't imaginitive. That's why we end up with millions of girls named Jennifer, Amanda and Samantha, and that's why we have millions of boys named John and Thomas.
Sometimes it's hard to come up with a nice-sounding combination. Or, other people can come up with and offer a combination of first and middle name, or a first name that you have never heard before, or haven't considered, and it might strike a cord with you.
I came up with my daughter's name alone (Angelica Belle) and I like it very much, and I think it sounds melodic and beautiful. However, there's a lot of couples out that that buy baby name books and ask everyone's advice because they can't. Besides, there could be subconscious reasons like their own insecurity with their own decision-making skills, or they might hate their own name and don't want to stiff their kids with an awful name.

different names are nice, but children can be cruel, some of those "different" names are just askin to be teased, i don't think it is fair to a child, but i do agree naming your child is huge, but i think people are just looking for suggestions and comments to what names mean to others, it's a personal decision and think they will ultimately go with their heart, they just want input, it is a huge decision

I asked opinions, but I did not ask for names. I gave choices and said "do you like them?" if they didnt, too bad...
