The civil war began because the federal government wanted to take away state rights. Many people falsely believe the war was about slavery-----that was NOT an issue early on------yes it did become an issue as the war progressed....The war was really about state rights versus federal government mandates.
Some people still feel our government has gotten too big and pushy. (too many laws)

Perhaps it would be more interesting to realize that there is no victor in war and that everyone loses much more than could possibly be gained.

It was fought over slavery and they didn't have anything better about which to fight.
