That is why they are elected for a term...not until they are not low in the polls...so they can make necessary but unpopular decisions...

Interesting question. Nixon's went so low but he refused to change his stance on Viet Nam too. He blamed everyone for the failed policies of his administration except for himself and those around him. I recently say a speech given by Nixon and weirdly enough it was almost the exact same speech that Bush gave about a month ago on Iraq. It's quite creepy how these cons and pro-war people never learn anything from history and end up repeating the same atrocities all over again.

A president, or any leader for that matter, should follow what he believes is the best path for the group he is leading. The chips will fall, and, in the end, he will be judged by the results. The polls are irrelevant.

FDR got down to 12%, maybe lower. Polls might be nice for getting a feel of what people feel, but you shouldn't let the polls lead you. People have a tendency to follow the path of least resistance and that isn't aways the best path to go down.

I think the only thing that needs changing is your mind. I'm happy with the direction we are moving in the war on terror and I'm hearing Iraq. My only problem is with the Amnesty for Illegals.
