Generally speaking no. You would have a very difficult time proving the transmission is accident related, and sorry, but the defense, "it was fine before," isn't going to cut it.

But depending on the severity of the impact, it's possible.....and when I mean severe, I mean the trunk now sits directly behind the steering wheel. In this case, the vehicle would be total and the transmission not an issue.

Well, it all depends on the details. Did your car get pushed over a curb or into any brush? Did your car hit anything else after it was hit by the truck? Was it a direct rear-end collision or were you t-boned (hit from the side) in the rear area?

If it were a rear-wheel drive car I would say that there would be a definite possibility, but the 2005 Monte Carlo is a front-wheel drive car. What are the symptoms of your non-working transmission?

I don't recall if the 2005 Monte's are rear drive or not. If it is rear drive then a good smack from the back can cause some transmission issues. how hard was the hit? is it damaged the bumper a little and there is no damage to the trunk or rear quarter panels then I do not think you would have any transmission problem. If it damaged the trunk and the rear quarters then yes there is the possibility for transmission damage.

Yes, due to the impact the rear of the vehicle was jammed forward and in turn jammed the transmission.

Yes. It would cause the other parts to jam in to the trans. and cause binding. This could happen to a front wheel drive car to if the conditions where right

A transmission can fail at any time, with or without a preceding event.
