Hi Leon,

You need a device like DVD Xpress.

With DVD Xpress you can transfer your video to your hard drive and then edit it if you desire. DVD Xpress comes with basic video editing software. I got mine at Sam's for $59.95. They are cheaper now. You can look at one & read about it here - http://www.usb-ware.com/ads-dvd-xpress.htm

You connect the composite output of your VHS into the DVD Xpress and connect the DVD Xpress to your computer via a USB cable.

Another (expensive - $150) is this device from Pinnacle Systems - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8040611&st=usb+video+editor&type=product&id=1157068283607

If you have just a few VHS tapes to convert there are people who do this for a fee, but if you have quite a few tapes it may
benefit you to look into a DVD recorder. The prices on these have come way down, there are ones that are in a unit with a VHS player and you can record one to the other all in the same unit or there are stand alone DVD recorders and you just hook them up to a VHS deck and record that way.

You first need a pc. Then you need a video capture card in order to convert the analogue in your vhs to digital which will create the dvd. Dazzle converters are good hardware and software for video coverting. You plug one end into your video player, one into your pc, whack a dvd in the drive and you can create it straight away with most of the Dazzle packages. Theyre £40-70 depending on which one you get.
Alternatively, if it's a one off, sometimes random places (chemists weirdly) do converting from vhs to dvd.

As long as the VHS is a home movie (i.e. does not have copy protection) you can hook the VCR up to a DVD Recorder and copy that way.

Otherwise you need to take the more complicate route of copying the VHS to a computer then burning a DVD.

are they from a camcorder? do u have a pc? if yes u can jus buy a tv tuner card for ur pc and record it straight to ur pc. u just have to connect ur camera or what ever u use to view ur tape to the pc and viola it's save to ur hard drive. once thats done just use a movie editing program to enhance the quality and sound. then when ur done with that just burn it to a dvd and thats it u've restored ur videos. heres a link to the tv tuner card u can purchase at compusa. good luck!!!
