I am using Dante's inferno in one of my essays
since it is a translation
which one do i use
Pinsky
or
Dante's
and do i cite the canto and the lines as well.

I would cite Dante's Inferno X's translation then site canto and verse that way you have informed the reader of where to find your cite.

What style sheet are you using? Google to find a website on Chicago Manual of Style or Modern Language Association and go from there.
