do you ever find yourself in a situation where you have to spend time with someone who doesn't talk much and there are loads of long awkward silences? what do you do in those situations to stop feeling so awkward and lost for words?

if you barley met this person ask about thier family, ask about their live. play 20 questions. if you a couple and he doesnt talk then ask him about his day and tell him about yours. ask him if anything interesting happened at his job. ask about what his future plans are . ask about him. i never have a momnet of silence over here because I like to hear about thier day and about life. get the newspaper and talk to him about it. think of something.

Just keep talking. Ask questions that the person is interested in. If that doesn't work, try to do more activities that make the person more comfortable.

Fill those silences with completely irrelevant non-sequitors...works every time. Short of that, ask people about themselves...

well usually you can end silences by saying something.
like:
what are you doing?
did you have a good day?
stuff like that.

just remember being random and social with someone who is quite opposite makes them become random and social... ive had experiences and they always start talking as much as me and become really hyper =] hope it works
