My aunt needs me to reformat her hard drive but she doesn't have a recovery cd, she told me that a tech gave her directions once on how to reinstall windows directly from the hard drive. I know I've done this once on my own computer but for the life of me I cannot remember how I did it, any help will be appreciated.

dont reformat it
you may loose the recovery partition
im not going to waste time trying to figure out why you think spending days reinstalling windows updates will be the solution to fixing whatever is wrong with the computer.
im guessing you watch the startup screen and it will tell you to tap a button to enter utilities.
on my computer its F12 and it gives me the options of restoring factory image from hard drive partition.
it may be F12, but it may be some other button, best to call tech support from the computer manufacturer.

have a great day

Ah, formatting spans an entire partition yet no longer different walls. That "crap" is used to regulate the hardware platforms on your workstation like the flexibility manager, fan, video interface, community interface and lots more advantageous. in case you wipe yourpersistent you'll in simple terms convey your self a deliver-load of grief.
