The problem stems back years and years when you happily spent millions on absolute rubbish and it has continued to last season.
The likes of Bramble, Luque, Babayaro etc aren't good enough. The people who sanction money to spend should've asked who they were wasting it on. I think you need a new back four as only Taylor looks like he is somewhere near Premiership class and even thats debatable.
You could do worse than go minesweeping some Premiership reserve sides. Bidding for the likes of Heinze, Silvestre, Hyypia would be a start and then look at players who play for 'smaller' clubs but have a bit of experience (eg Leighton Baines, Luke Young)
Then I'd worry about the rest of the team. You have the basis of a decent side with Dyer, Owen, Sibeirski, Martins, Butt and Duff with one of the outstanding goalies in the league in Shay Given.
I wouldn't start changing your manager as he seems like he could sort it out for you and time should serve him well.

same old Newcastle total loads of bottlers ,no heart for the challenge when it came time to stand up and be counted where were they .so fu**ing sick and tired of that back four letting what i think is probably the best goal keeper in the premier league down(sack the ******* lot of them)until we get four new defenders who can do the business at the back we should be lucky were not in the same fight as Charlton ......bored...bored...bored with the same old Newcastle united god knows why 52000 turn up every week just to go home disappointed.

i really dont care....whatever happens at newc@stle now makes me laugh, fat freddie is a treat.
alan (woodentop) shearer as a pundit?
owen injured for soooooo long, bet if you were top 4 he would be ok by now.
negative tactics dont help, AZ are an attacking team that tend to leave only two back....yet you seemed to be set for the draw.
with any luck, and it is looking more likely by the week, sunderland will be back next season, if you lot dont pick your game up and we keep playing better and better football, newc@stle are going to have a real hard time when we get above them.
the good times are coming back.....for some ;)

no 1 is the problem they have been struggling with injuries
shearer has gone and Owen is injured
dyer is back which is good news for them and he is playing well
it isn't the managers fault he is a good manager
every team goes through bad patches and this week its Newcastle's turn
on Thursday yes it was a poor performance and they should have knocked AZ alkhammar out
but I'm saying the Newcastle are a very good team and they will bounce back very quickly

I am so glad that it was 'that' Newcastle Utd that turned up today. As a Charlton fan of 34 years standing I am so pleased for the points and must offer you my heart-felt thanks.
This year, if you don't fancy middle-table mediocrity, how about swapping with us & 'enjoying' fighting for your survival as the season draws to a close.

i'm a spur and you have turned us over twice this season, there is a lot of talent in your midfield and attack, but your defence is piss poor. if i was roeder i would buy a new defence at the end of the season, then i think you could bag some silver.

They should never have sacked Bobby Robson, look at the managers they have had since.
