I got ahold of a Windows 98 SE cd that's for Dell only. I have an HP computer. On the very first screen it says "this cd is for Dell computers only" and the program quits. How does it know that I don't have a Dell? Is there a way to trick it into thinking that it is a Dell?

The Bios in the computers is set with a marker saying what company the computer is from and Microsoft makes specific versions of thier software to work with specific markers.

No there is no way to fool it sorry...

OMG! Find someone with an XP disk!

The CD has a program that searches your computer. Your only chance (OTHER THAN BUYING AN OPERATING STSTEM) is to copy the cab files to the hard drive, etc.
