i have WMC 2005. for a couple of months now we have not been able to use a background. when you restart the computer, the background comes up. then once everything is loaded, a solid blue screen comes up. we can change these solid colours of but can not add an image for the background.
get it so far?
when you right click, blah blah blah to get even a standard background the options are all locked out.

any suggestions on how to fix this?

You probably have some "malware" that set your registry options to disallow those types of changes...

See the following reference for tools to prevent future infections, and seek out a local professional to assist you in the process of fixing the registry.

If you know when the infection MIGHT have occurred, you could TRY a "system restore" to a point prior to that event to restore the functionality, but this would also undo any LEGITIMATE changes that occurred during the same timeframe...

Best to get a PRO involved at this point!

If you feel competent to play with the registry (NOT recommended for the "faint of heart!") I also added a reference that gives you the particular registry option that is corrupted...

BUT... You should remove any infections as the FIRST order of business!

no way!!

I'm having the same problem with my laptop!
It says something like;

The themes are not turned on.

It happened after I had fixed it in safe mode.
