I also write poetry and I also agree with you, but some people need to have other peoples opinion to give their work-worth. I have even seen others who critique to the point of changing entire lines, can you imagin doing that to some elses work-Oh yeah, maybe I would if they asked. I'll share one of my favorite poets with you and you may have read some of his already but go on Poemhunter.com and read Dream within a Dream and Alone by Edgar Allen Poe. Bye.

Most of them are quite young. They are seeking approval and validation for the poems which are mostly words expressing the pain of teenage years - dark and deep. I try to critique them as best I can and some of them take my advice, some dont. It's an approval issue really. Most young kids dont get much of it at home anymore. They would never show their work to their parents so they come here. At that age, I was publishing poetry and my parents were my biggest supporters and fans. I guess things have changed. I dont mind them publishing here if it helps them vent and gives them an outlet to share. C.

Many poets are quiet and reserved. Finding an audience for their poems is difficult. Poets in smaller cities or burgs aren't likely to find poetry readings or amatuer nights. I think this provides them with an unthreatening stage. I think it is nice that they have this forum.

Places like this can be good places to get an idea of how an average person will respond to your writing. I personally wouldn't use this site to display my work, but some people would.

they do it because they want someone they don't know view of their poem. i would never put my on here either though, i have my family read them (they tell me what they really think), and i send them into contests. getting professionals to tell you what they think is the best way to find out the truth.
peace
