It's normal. Each baby is different and has different needs. However, it may help to have a set bedtime routine that differs from naps. This can help your baby relax and know that it is time for longer sleep. You can also try swaddling your baby to help him sleep a bit longer stretches. However, if these things don't work, just know that he will start sleeping longer when he is ready. You do not HAVE to let your baby cry. Even if you want to try the Ferber/"cry it out" method, it isn't really recommended with such a young baby. You also do not need to start solid foods at such a young age. Your baby's tummy is not ready and there is actually no proof that this helps them sleep longer.

i'm completely interior a similar boat. I spent about 1/2 of best evening mendacity on the floor next to my 14mo old’s crib with my arm by the slats so he can carry my hand. He once slept for 7 hours (at 3 or 4 months) yet frequently he wakes up each couple hours nevertheless. I actually have made some recent progression idea. He now no longer nurses at evening and he continues to be in his crib all evening. I don’t %. him up, I in undemanding words enable him carry my hand or pat him on the back. have you ever tried introducing a snuggly? My popular e book is The No-Cry Sleep answer by ability of Elizabeth Pantley. It has some brilliant options. I used it with my daughter who not in any respect slept more beneficial than 3 a million/2 hours at a time until eventually she replaced into 15mo. the hardest section with a infant who received’t sleep by the evening is that it’s no longer plausible to be consistent once you’re completely exhausted! Pantley also has a version for kids; that one may be more beneficial useful for you. The e book no longer in undemanding words provides tremendous options, it helps you establish what's popping out to be the sleep ailment firstly.

I gave my baby a warm bath a warm bowl of rice cereal off a spoon and a warm bottle at four days olds. He was sleeping through the night from 10:00 p.m. -6:00a.m. every night from day four. Thats when I brought him home. By the time I took him in for his 6 week check up he was on all the fruits and veggies. Things have changed so much since then . That was 1974. But hey he lived through it . Never had any infections ear troubles colds, etc. He was always healthy,so I did the same with my next son 3 years later, and had the same results. Peaceful sleep for all of us. Good luck

That's completely normal. Remember, your baby is growing so much right now that he needs to have food to fuel that growth.
Whatever you do, don't put rice cereal (or any other food) in his bottle. It will NOT make baby sleep longer. Also, don't think this is a sign that your baby is ready for solids, you should not start solids until your baby is at LEAST SIX months old.

Routine, routine, routine!!!
I have a 4 month old who has slept through the whole night since he was 3 months. My pediatrician told me to get some type of nighttime routine in place whether it was bathtime, bottle, bedtime story...something that will allow the baby to know that it is bedtime. Also, it's important to let the baby cry; they need to learn to comfort themselves. Now, as a first time mom this was not easy, but it did get easier as the nights went on and now he barely cries. Here is the name of an excellent book that is a great help. "On Becoming Baby Wise: Giving Your Infant the Gift of Nighttime Sleep" by Gary Ezzo, MA and Robert Bucknam, MD. Hope this helps!

Your child is normal.
He will sleep through the night when he is developmentally ready to do so.
At this very young age he is growing SO fast and he really does NEED to eat at night still.

an old lady in the grocerie store told me to put a little baby cereal in my sons bottle at night. Make the opening of the nipple a little bigger. They use to sell this strawberry yougart, and bannana cereal, my baby loved it. After that advice, he always slept solid all night. At this age they want something more to hold them over. Remember just a little cereal, it should be really runny.

My daughter came home from the NICU at three weeks old. First week was rough for sleep. We used to play music very softly on her cd player at bedtime. Worked wonders for us. She would go to sleep around 10pm and wake up at 5am. She would have slept later but had to get her up to go to daycare. The trick is finding the type of music that your baby will respond to. For our daughter it was the Meteora CD from Linkin Park. LOL

I assume you're nursing; a bottle-fed baby would be able to longer than that at night by that age. I think it sounds normal still for your child; when you start solids at 4 months he should start sleeping for longer times.
