I have 1, I discovered last week I have 3 hammers! Why? I have no idea, I also have no idea where they came from!
Also in the drawer are-
1.About 700 allen keys for who-knows-what, about 695 of them are identical.
2.An ancient pack of blue tack full of bits of lint.
3.Several thousand dead batteries, why do I keep them, WHY?
4.Screws? I mean what are they FOR?
5.Two lighters and four packets of matches, even though I don't smoke and don't have anything powered by gas!
6.A couple of broken kinder egg toys.
7.Five keys of unknown origin.
8.A cheese grater? It looks like one but it could be anything really!
9.Some totally useless manuals for things I no longer have.
10.A manual for my kettle that I do still have but come on it's a kettle, did I really need to keep the instructions?
11.A really fat piece of grey wire, I think my husband may be responable for that because I have never seen it before.
12.A teat from a babys' bottle.(my child is now 4)
13.About 1000 fuses, I suppose these may be useful one day.
14.Silver polish. Hmm, i may have to buy some silver then.
15.Four cellotapes of varying ages and amounts.
16.Some tags for cards.
17.Seven biros, only one of which works.
18.A really really short pencil.
19.Two tape measures.
20.Another allen key, a really big one.
21.A plastic key, what is it for? No idea!
22.The spare keys to a car we sold last year!
23.A mini sewing kit I got in a hotel.
24.Sisscors. Okay, again useful.
25.A pack of wall tacks.
26.A little tin of oil, for doors maybe?
27.A little basket full of plastic crap, bits of only god knows what.
28.A rusty stanley knife with NO BLADE! Oh yes, very handy.
29.A tiny little notepad, probably my daughters.
30.A disposable camera that's been there for over a year. It's used up, really should get that developed!
31.The garlic press.
32.Some bonjela.
33.About twentyfive thousand pounds in coppers!

There is more, but it just gets more boring I am afraid. Why do we do this? It's really odd isn't it?

Yeah but sometimes my crap drawer spills over into other drawers and then I have to have a big sort out. Your so right about the pen thing- where do they all go?

We have a "Catch all" as we refer to the drawer also. We also keep a pencil or pen holder cup on the counter for pens and pencils. It works well except I have to throw away pens every now and then that don't write anymore out of it. I don't know why people put pens that won't write back in there.

Like--just ONE?? I must have over a dozen drawers, & all but one is like that. But WORSE still--are the places I keep things because I don't know what they're for, but I'm afraid if I throw them away, I'll remember what I needed them for. I also have a huge barrel (actually, it's a cute barrel!) filled with clothes that I "might" want to wear some day, & my laundry basket is 3/4th full of stuff I never wash, because I'd have to iron it. & I haven't got a CLUE what's in my 15x20 storage unit. Some of you answers remind me of one of my questions: "Paper clips?" The most amusing answers I've ever seen. As for pens, when I really need one, (like making notes when I'm on the phone), there's not one in sight--but by gum, later I'll find a whole bunch in one place, half of which don't work, because I lost the caps, & they dried out. What a life!

everyone has at least one drawer like that. i make a point of putting a few pens in several locatiions around my home. from the desk drawer, a drawer in the kitchen, a couple loose on the computer desk, a plastic container full of pens on a shelf in i cupboard in my lounge as well as leave ane or two in coat pockets.
as well as keep at least one pen with my cheque book.
i guess the moral of this is to buy loads of pens and put at least one in every drawer in your home office and remember to put the pen back when you have finished with it.
i suggest keeping a note pad with the pens as well.

My drawers and my closets are all like that. Every Spring I start cleaning them, but soon it's winter again and they never get done.
Fortunately, I know where the stuff I am looking for is. It takes me a while fo find it -you know, I have to take everything off the drawer or closet- but I always find it!

I think we all have that drawer and the pen problem. A suggestion I have is to use a mug, cup, or pen holder on the counter or desk that the pens/pencils live. You have to discipline yourself as well as others in your family to return those items to their home when they are finished using them. Once it has become a habit you will never go looking for a pen again.

Good luck!
