Sorry to tell you that the Midtown Hotel is not the least bit interesting. The location is ok--about a 5 minute walk to Copley Square. But it is an ugly 2 story building that looks as tho it was initially built as a motor court, back in the 50's.
There is a new-ish small boutique hotel in Copley Square, right across the street from the Library and the T-station. It's called The Charlesmark. The rooms are small, but brand new. They have every amenity. You can't beat the location, price and accommodation!
Here is their website:
http://www.thecharlesmark.com/
Price is about $150/night..which in Boston is unheard-of!
Good luck and enjoy this wonderful city.

Check out Travelzoo.com - they have an awesome deal on the Millenium Hotel, which is a boutique hotel right across from Quincy Market. It's normally 300 a night, but they have an offer for 129 a night (!) They had other deals on Boston hotels as well. I check out travelzoo for most of my leisure travel, and have been really happy with rates I've found there.

The Langham Hotel is cool. It's old and very pretty. And OMG their Sunday Jazz Brunch is the best thing ever. Its $50 per person but the food is unlimited. Chocolate fondue, crepes, foie grais, pasta, omelettes, cold cuts, chicken, salads, desserts, brownies, the most amazing food ever. Seriously you should go. Not sure about the price. I think it's like 200 a night at most for 2 people.

The Copley Square Hotel is pretty cool in the Back Bay area. It's still got many of its original features - built in 1891. I'm not sure if it fits your budget though... maybe? Or the Midtown Hotel on Huntington Ave. - they've got a nice litlle pool.

I stayed at a hotel in the Financial District, one on Devonshire. I forgot the name but maybe you can find this. It's near Fanneiul Hall and very close to the T.

463 Beacon Guest House is in the Back Bay right near downtown and is also near the T. I've never stayed there personally to be honest but it looks nice and it's in a nice location. Their website: http://www.463beacon.com/
